I have often thought that my painting friends deserve a nice surprise for being so loyal to me, so I have decided to occasionally post a free pattern here just for you! Some will be complete with a color photo of the finished project, some will simply be a line drawing for you to use with your abounding creativity, and pick your own colors. WOOD PREPARATION: Seal wood. Sand smooth with #400 sandpaper and wipe clean. Apply one coat of Delta Antiquing Gel, Brown to back of Santa. Apply basic pattern lines. BOX: Base top of lid with Bridgeport Grey. Dry and then using the sea sponge, stipple on Glacier Blue, repeat with White. Solidly base outer rim of lid with Mallard Green and then float a wavy line of White at the top edge to look like snow hanging over the edge. Base box bottom with Black. Measure and mark a 3/8” band, ½” from bottom edge and base it with Moroccan Red. Shade float the corners with Black Cherry and dry brush on highlights of Tangerine to the center of each section.

FACE: Base with Rosetta Pink. Shade float with Desert Sun Orange. Using Rouge, dry brush on rosy cheeks, using the round fabric brush and also shade float bottom edge of nose. Repeat lightly with Fruit Punch. Highlight float with Queen Annes Lace. Using washy Burnt Sienna, outline eye space and then base the center circle with the same color. Now shade float the top edge of it with Dark Burnt Umber for the pupil. Using White, fill in whites of eyes, make a tiny highlight line at the bottom edge of iris and also place a highlight dot at top edge, right of center. Pull eyelashes with tiny lines of Burnt Sienna and Dark Burnt Umber. Make eyebrows by dabbing on Bridgeport Grey and then over stroking them with White. Base lip with Rouge. Shade float it with Fruit Punch and highlighting it with Queen Annes Lace.

MUSTACHE & BEARD: (Paint after coat is completed). Base with Bridgeport Grey. Shade float with Storm Grey. Using the 20/0 Shining Feather Soft Stroke brush, thin Drizzle Grey to an inky consistence, over stroke, pulling from top to bottom, repeat with Glacier Blue. Repeat again with White.

COAT & PANTS: Base with Moroccan Red. Shade float with Barn Red, repeat with Black Cherry. Repeat again with Dark Red Mix. Highlight float with Orange, repeat with Tangerine. Now repeat with Pumpkin. Make dots of Dark Burnt Umber for buttons. Using White, highlight float the bottom edge of each and place a highlight dot at the top edge. Make trim lines on coat with Cornsilk Yellow. Base belt with Dark Burnt Umber. Shade float with Black. Highlight float with Mocha Brown, repeat with Terra Cotta. Base buckle with Golden Brown. Shade float with Raw Sienna, repeat with Terra Cotta. Highlight float with Sunbright Yellow, repeat with Cornsilk Yellow.

SCARF: Base with Mallard Green. Shade float with Dark Blue Mix. Highlight float with Laguna Blue, repeat with Turquoise. Make trim bands with Laguna Blue. Shade float them with Mallard green. Highlight

float them with Turquoise, repeat with Tropic Bay Blue. Make trim lines and dots with Tropic Bay Blue.

HAT: Base top and bottom sections with Moroccan Red. Shade float with Barn Red, repeat with Black Cherry. Highlight float with Orange, repeat with Tangerine. Repeat again with Pumpkin. Base middle section with Mallard Green. Shade float with Dark Blue Mix. Highlight float with Laguna Blue, repeat with Turquoise. Base brim with Golden Brown. Highlight float with Empire Gold, repeat with Sunbright Yellow. Make stripes with Cornsilk Yellow and highlight float them with White. Glaze with a wash of Empire Gold. Shade float with Burnt Sienna, repeat with Cinnamon. Base pompom with Golden Brown. Highlight float with Sunbright Yellow, repeat with Cornsilk Yellow. Make a highlight dot at top with White.

MITTENS: Base with Vibrant Green. Highlight float with Light Foliage Green, repeat with Lima Green. Glaze with Perfect Highlight For Green. Shade float and make the trim bands with Dark Foliage Green.

POLE: Base with Black then highlight float the right edge with Bridgeport Grey. Base sign pieces with Bridgeport Grey and shade float bottom edge with Storm Grey. Float a wavy line across the top edge with White to look like snow. Make letters with Dark Red Mix. Base Holly leaves with Vibrant Green. Make vein lines and shade float with Dark Foliage Green. Highlight float with Light Foliage Green, repeat with Lima Green. Glaze with Perfect Highlight For Green. Base bow with Moroccan Red. Shade float with Barn Red, repeat with Black Cherry. Repeat again in deepest areas with Dark Red Mix. Highlight float with Orange, repeat with Tangerine. Repeat with Pumpkin.

BOOTS: Base with Dark Brown. Shade float with Dark Burnt Umber. Highlight float with Raw Sienna, repeat with Spice Tan. Shade float inside eyelets with Dark Burnt Umber and then highlight float them with Spice Tan. Outline with White. Make laces with Spice Tan and highlight them with White. Make trim lines on heel edge of boot with Spice Tan and make highlight commas on toes with White. Base soles and heels with Dark Burnt Umber.

FINAL FINISHING:

Give wood at least 3 coats of Delta Ceramcoat Interior Spray Varnish or Delta Ceramcoat Interior Varnish. Attach signs and left mitten piece to post with adhesive. Attach Santa to box lid.
