WOOD PREPARATION: Follow ‘Special Painting Procedures” and then apply one coat of
DELTA CERAMCOAT ANTIQUING GEL, BROWN to back of wood. Let dry. Apply
basic pattern lines.
PAINTING INSTRUCTIONS
FACE:
Base with MEDIUM FLESH. Highlight float with FLESHTONE. Shade float
with DESERT SUN ORANGE. Float ROUGE on cheeks area and bottom edge of
nose. Base eyebrows with SANDSTONE. Using thinned BURNT SIENNA,
outline eye space then base the eye iris with the same color unthinned.
Using DARK CHOCOLATE, make pupil at top edge of iris and also line
eyelashes. Using LIGHT IVORY, fill in whites of eyes, highlight float
bottom edge of iris, place highlight dots on top edge of pupil, cheeks
and nose.
BEARD & MUSTACHE: (Note:
These are to be painted after coat and hat are completed). Base with
SANDSTONE. Shade float with LICHEN GREY. Overstroke with RAW LINEN/LIGHTIVORY,
pulling from bottom edge upward on beard and on mustache, from outer
edge inward toward nose.
HAT: Base
with MOROCCAN RED. Shade float with BLACK CHERRY/CHOCOLATE CHERRY in
deepest places. Highlight float with POPPY ORANGE/BITTERSWEET ORANGE.
Base stripes on hat tail with EMERALD GREEN. Highlight float with
MEDIUM GREEN MIX/TURQUOISE. Shade float with DEEP RIVER GREEN. Base
hat brim and pompom with ROMAN STUCCO. Shade float with RAW
SIENNA/AUTUMN BROWN. Highlight float with MAPLE SUGAR TAN/CANDLELIGHT.
Make highlights on crown and pompom with LIGHT IVORY.
COAT & PANTS:
Base with MOROCCAN
RED. Make stripes with CALYPSO ORANGE. Shade float with BLACK
CHERRY/CHOCOLATE CHERRY in deepest places. Highlight float with POPPY
ORANGE/BITTERSWEET ORANGE. Base buttons with CHOCOLATE CHERRY. Now,
highlight float them and place highlight dots at top edge with LIGHT
IVORY. Also make trim lines on pockets with LIGHT IVORY. Base cuffs
with ROMAN STUCCO. Shade float with RAW SIENNA/AUTUMN BROWN. Highlight
float with MAPLE SUGAR TAN/CANDLELIGHT.
STAR:
Base with EMPIRE GOLD. Highlight float with BUTTER YELLOW/SUNBRIGHT
YELLOW. Repeat with CANDLELIGHT. Shade float with RAW SIENNA/AUTUMN
BROWN. Line highlight side with LIGHT IVORY.
MITTENS:
Base with EMERALD GREEN. Highlight float with MEDIUM GREEN
MIX/TURQUOISE. Shade float with DEEP RIVER GREEN. Make trim lines with
TROPIC BAY BLUE.
BOOT:
Base with DARK BROWN. Shade float with DARK CHOCOLATE. Highlight float
with RAW SIENNA/GOLDEN BROWN. Place highlight comma stroke on toe with
LIGHT IVORY. Base sole with DARK CHOCOLATE and shade float upper edge
with BLACK.
BANNER:
Base with DEEP RIVER GREEN. Highlight float with MEDIUM GREEN MIX.
Base MAKE
letters with MAPLE
SUGAR TAN. Shade float bottom edge of each letter with RAW
SIENNA/AUTUMN BROWN lightly. Highlight float top edge with LIGHT
IVORY. Base MERRY
letters and
DOTS with
POPPY ORANGE. Shade float bottom edge of each letter and dot with
MOROCCAN RED. Highlight float with BITTERSWEET ORANGE and place a
highlight dot of LIGHT IVORY on the top edge of each letter and dot.
Make trim lines of TROPIC BAY BLUE at the top and bottom edge and on
outer ends of the banner.
FINAL FINISHING:
Attach arm to body with adhesive. Give entire project 2 to 3 coats of
Delta Ceramcoat Interior Spray Varnish or Delta Ceramcoat Interior
Varnish. Using wire or twine attach a hanger in holes at top edge of
star and hat. |
I
have often thought that my painting friends deserve a nice surprise
for being so loyal to me, so I have decided to occasionally post a
free pattern here just for you! Some will be complete with a color
photo of the finished project, some will simply be a line drawing for
you to use with your abounding creativity, and pick your own colors.
